Tribunal staff trained in tax legislation
The Revenue Appeals Tribunal members of staff have been trained and oriented in substantive tax legislation in readiness for the operationalization of the Tribunal, an office mandated to hear and determine tax appeals from taxpayers against the objection decision made by the Commissioner General of the Malawi Revenue Authority.
Speaking during the opening of the training session, the Chairperson of the Tribunal, His Honor Mr Joster Chisale, emphasized the importance of staff members gaining insights into tax legislation, to ensure that they are well-prepared to handle tax grievances from an informed perspective.
“We can only be competent and effective as a Tribunal if we are well acquainted with the provisions of the tax legislation and any other applicable law that governs the tax system in Malawi.” His Honor Chisale said.
During the training session, members of staff were taken through legislation such as Taxation Act, Value Added Tax Act, Customs and Excise Act as well as Transfer Pricing regulations.
